The number of incidents related to Slips, Trips and Falls has been increasing in both workplaces and at homes.
Some of the common factors that leads to Slips, Trips and Falls are:
FLOORING
The floor in our workplace and even our homes, should be of suitable floor finish for the type of works activities taking place. If a floor is slippery, identify what caused it. Ensuring appropriate cleaning materials and methods are being used to maintain the surface of flooring from slipperiness.
How do floors become contaminated?
Contamination can occur through spills, leaks from machinery or equipment’s or even pure water. If you see such spills, take the necessity measures to prevent slips and falls from happening. Having a cleaning regime in place, ensures that there is no build up of water and improves our work efficiency.
FOOTWEAR
Choosing the right anti-slip footwear with durability, comfort and other safety features will play a vital role in preventing slips, trips and falls. This can become more practicable with the safety advocates advise.
HUMAN FACTORS
Consider how people act and behave in their work environment. Having a conversation with the coworkers about the importance of dealing with spillages, ensuring that hazards such as slips and falls are mitigated without any delays and the wearing of right footwear should be part of workplace routines. Reinforcing these messages should be the standards expected of the teams and not to be deviated from.
HOUSEKEEPING
Daily checks ensure that slips, trips and falls hazards are eliminated. There should be focus on items that cause obstructions, an effective cleaning regime is in place and adequate storage facilities for materials at the point of use.
