What Classifies as e-Waste?

What Classifies as e-Waste?

Singapore generates about 60,000 tons of e-waste a year and its equivalent to the weight of 220 Airbus A380 airplanes. According to NEA the rate of e-Waste generation is expected to increase in tandem with economic growth.

  • E-waste mostly contains of plastics and metal component but also contains small number of toxic components that are dangerous to human health such as mercury, lead, cadmium, lithium and beryllium.
  • These materials will permeate into the earth, into water sources and become threat to the human and aquatic if it’s not disposed in environmentally sound manner.
  • Components in e-waste also contains precious metals such as gold, palladium, silver and copper which gives a high recycling value.
